Functional Testing in Integrative Care
Functional testing can provide valuable insights into your body’s current state, helping to guide personalised strategies for wellbeing and symptom support. At Integrative Care, I only recommend functional tests when they are truly necessary to inform a safe and effective plan. Tests are never done as a routine or “one-size-fits-all” measure—they are tailored to your individual situation, symptoms, and treatment stage. This ensures that you receive meaningful, actionable information without undergoing unnecessary or redundant testing.
How Functional Testing Works
The majority of functional tests I use are performed through NutriPath, a reputable Australian laboratory. Depending on your needs, testing may include assessments such as:
- digestive and gut function
- nutrient levels and imbalances
- inflammation and oxidative stress markers
- other biomarkers relevant to supportive care
Samples are usually collected via blood, urine, or stool, depending on the test. The process is straightforward, safe, and non-invasive.
Why Expertise Matters
Functional testing is only valid when interpreted correctly. With my background in clinical nursing, naturopathy, and integrative oncology, I ensure that results are assessed in context with your medical history, treatment plan, and overall well-being. This allows me to provide evidence-informed, personalised recommendations—without over-testing or causing unnecessary concern.
Important Considerations
- Functional tests are supportive tools, not diagnostic tests, and they do not replace medical investigations ordered by your GP or oncology team.
- Results are used to guide integrative strategies, including nutrition, lifestyle, and herbal support.
- If testing reveals findings outside the scope of supportive care, you will be referred to your GP or oncology team for further evaluation.
Functional testing is just one component of a personalised, integrative approach—used sparingly and thoughtfully to provide meaningful insight and support your health journey.
