Macadamia nuts contain the lowest amount of methionine of all of the nuts. Adding fats into the low-methionine is critical for a number of reasons. Fat gives you more ‘bang for buck’ when it comes to calories per gram of food. Fat in the meal also curbs hunger as it creates a feeling of satiety through brain signalling.
One of the biggest issues that patients run into when starting the low-methionine diet is reaching their daily calorie and protein requirements, as well as feeling hungry all the time! This recipe is fantastic as a calorie and fat boost to help the patient reach their calorie target without going over their methionine limit.
